ReMews ("ReMews", "we", "us" or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit or use remews.com (the "Website"), create an account, sign in using Google, participate in our community, use our tools, or otherwise interact with ReMews.

1.Who is responsible for your data?

2.Personal data we collect

Depending on how you use ReMews, we may process the following categories of information.

Account information

When you create or use a ReMews account, we may process information such as:

  • your name
  • username or display name
  • email address
  • profile image
  • account identifier
  • account preferences
  • information relating to the creation, use and security of your account

Google Sign-In information

If you choose to sign in with Google, ReMews receives information made available by Google within the permissions requested by ReMews. For standard authentication this may include:

  • your Google account identifier
  • your email address
  • your name
  • your Google profile image

We use this information to create or identify your ReMews account, authenticate you, maintain your account session, display your account information and help protect ReMews against unauthorised access or abuse.

ReMews does not receive your Google password.

We do not sell Google user data and we do not use information obtained through Google Sign-In for targeted advertising.

Our use of information received through Google APIs will comply with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including applicable Limited Use requirements.

Community content

If you participate in the ReMews forum or other community features, we may process information you submit, including posts, comments and replies, usernames, images or attachments, reactions or other interactions, and reports submitted about content or users.

Content that you intentionally publish in public areas of ReMews may be visible to anyone on the internet. You should not include confidential, highly sensitive or unnecessary personal information in public posts.

Website and technical information

When you access ReMews, certain technical information may be processed automatically, including IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, date and time of access, pages requested, referring page or website, technical error information, and security and authentication events.

Some of this information is necessary for security, fraud prevention and the technical operation of ReMews.

Analytics information

If you consent to analytics cookies or similar technologies, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use ReMews. Analytics information may include pages visited, approximate location derived from technical information, session duration, referring sources, browser and device information, interactions with Website features, and analytics identifiers.

Communications

If you contact us, we may process your email address, name and the content of your message in order to respond to you.

Affiliate links

Some ReMews content contains affiliate links. When you follow an affiliate link, the destination website or affiliate network may receive information necessary to attribute the visit or resulting purchase to ReMews. Those third parties process information according to their own privacy and cookie policies. ReMews may receive commission when a visitor makes a qualifying purchase through certain affiliate links.

3.How we use personal data

We may process personal data in order to:

  • operate, maintain and secure ReMews
  • create and manage user accounts
  • authenticate users
  • provide community and forum functionality
  • publish content submitted by users
  • respond to requests and support enquiries
  • moderate content and enforce our Terms of Use

  • maintain service logs and diagnose technical problems
  • understand Website usage and improve ReMews, where consent has been provided

Performance of a contract

Processing may be necessary to provide the ReMews account, authentication, forum or other services requested by you.

Legitimate interests

We may process information where necessary for legitimate interests such as maintaining the security and integrity of ReMews, preventing fraud and abuse, operating and improving the Website, moderating our community, and defending our legal rights. We consider the impact on your rights before relying on legitimate interests.

Consent

We rely on consent where required, including for non-essential analytics or tracking technologies. You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before consent was withdrawn.

Legal obligations

We may process or retain information when required to comply with applicable law or a legally binding request.

5.Cookies and similar technologies

ReMews uses cookies and similar technologies for purposes including authentication, security, preferences and analytics. Strictly necessary technologies may be used without optional consent where permitted by law because they are required to provide functionality requested by the user. Analytics and other non-essential technologies are used subject to consent.

6.Google services

ReMews may use Google services including Google Sign-In and Google Analytics. When you choose Google Sign-In, Google processes information relating to the authentication request according to Google's own terms and privacy practices. Google Analytics may process Website usage information where analytics consent has been provided.

The specific Google permissions requested by ReMews are limited to information reasonably necessary to provide the relevant feature. We do not request access to additional Google account information unless it is necessary for a feature that is clearly explained to you.

7.Service providers and recipients

We may use third-party providers to help operate ReMews, such as providers of:

  • website hosting and infrastructure
  • databases and data storage
  • authentication
  • analytics
  • security and error monitoring
  • email communications
  • affiliate tracking

These providers may process personal data only to the extent necessary to provide their services to us and subject to applicable contractual and legal protections.

We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect ReMews or its users, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or transfer of the Website or its business. We do not sell your personal data.

8.International data transfers

Some service providers may process personal data outside the European Economic Area. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, which may include an adequacy decision adopted by the European Commission, Standard Contractual Clauses or another legally permitted transfer mechanism.

9.How long we keep data

We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. In general:

  • account information is retained while your account remains active and for a reasonable period afterwards where necessary for legal, security or administrative purposes
  • public community content may remain available until deleted by you, removed by ReMews, or deleted following an applicable request
  • security and technical logs are retained for a limited period based on operational and security needs
  • analytics data is retained according to our configured analytics retention settings
  • communications may be retained as reasonably necessary to handle the enquiry and maintain appropriate business records

Certain information may be retained for a longer period where required by law, necessary to resolve disputes or necessary to prevent abuse.

10.Account and data deletion

You can delete your ReMews account yourself from your profile page. That removes your account, your cat profiles, your photos and your votes, and detaches your forum contributions from your account.

You can also request deletion by writing to privacy@remews.com.

Deleting an account does not require us to remove information that we are legally required to retain. Public forum contributions may be deleted, anonymised or disassociated from your account depending on the circumstances and applicable law.

11.Your GDPR rights

Where the GDPR applies, you may have the right to:

  • request access to your personal data
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data
  • request deletion of personal data
  • request restriction of processing
  • object to certain processing based on legitimate interests
  • receive certain personal data in a portable format
  • withdraw consent at any time
  • lodge a complaint with a competent data protection authority

To exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@remews.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.

As the controller is established in the Netherlands, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

12.Children

ReMews is a general-audience service and is not intentionally designed to collect personal data from young children. Users must satisfy the minimum age requirements stated in our Terms of Use to create an account or participate in community features.

If you believe a child has provided personal data to ReMews contrary to applicable requirements, please contact us.

13.Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, disclosure or access. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping access to your ReMews account and associated authentication methods secure.

14.External websites

ReMews contains links to websites operated by third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy practices, content or security of third-party websites. You should review the privacy policies of those websites separately.

15.Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to ReMews, our service providers, legal requirements or our data practices. The current version will always be published on this page with the date of the latest update. Where appropriate, we may provide additional notice of significant changes.
